Mauricio Pochettino wants Man Utd job as pressure builds on Solskjaer

Mauricio Pochettino wants to become the next Man Utd manager, according to a report.

The Manchester Evening News claims Pochettino, recently replaced by José Mourinho as Tottenham manager, remains interested in managing Manchester United after being strongly linked with the job this time last year.

It is suggested that Pochettino wanted the United job when the club sacked Mourinho last December but Solskjaer impressed with 14 wins from 19 as caretaker coach, including a remarkable Champions League comeback against PSG, to become permanent manager in March.

Solskjaer was asked about his job at this morning’s press conference and dismissed reports that he is near the sack

Competition for Pochettino is expected to be tense — especially if he remains unemployed until the summer. Bayern Munich will be considering their options, Real Madrid may sack Zinedine Zidane and Arsenal are looking for a replacement for Unai Emery.

Verdict

A lot can change in a week. United face Tottenham on Wednesday night before travelling to the Etihad on Sunday. It would be a shock if we beat both Spurs and City, yet losing both could put Solskjaer in a really bad position potentially leaving the club with no other choice but to fire him.

That would open the door for Pochettino, who is reportedly interested in the prospect of managing the Red Devils.
