Atletico Madrid join race to sign Nemanja Matic

Atletico Madrid have joined the race to sign Nemanja Matic from Manchester United in January, according to ESPN.

The Serbia midfielder, who has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford this season, has made just five appearances in all competitions this season.

It looks like he will leave in the upcoming transfer window — and it will be the best for all parties involved.

There’s no point keeping a player who doesn’t want to be at the club anymore and Matic made it clear that he’s more of a José Mourinho man, which can come across disrespectful to the current manager.

The ESPN report claims AC Milan tried to sign Matic in the summer but their attempted were rejected by the Red Devils. Apparently the Italians are still interested but Atletico have now emerged as a rival for the midfielder’s signature.

Atletico are said to be seeing experienced reinforcements in midfield and Matic will be eligible to play in the Champions League.

Having signed a three-year deal following his move from Chelsea in July 2017, Matic’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season, although United have an option to extend his stay at the club for a further year.

Nobody will be calling for that to happen!
