‘Never seen a player like him’: Juan Mata lauds Manchester United summer signing

Juan Mata has hailed summer signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka, describing him as an ‘unbelievable’ player.

Wan-Bissaka has settled into life brilliantly at Old Trafford since arriving from Crystal Palace for a fee reportedly around £50m.

The 21-year-old’s performances have been one of the rare positives in an extremely poor start to the season for the Reds.

He earned his first call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for games against Kosovo and Bulgaria but had to withdraw citing a recurring back problem.

But, as expected, Wan-Bissaka has already established himself as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice right-back, starting all six Premier League games.

“He’s very, very good in defensive duties, very good in tackling,” Mata told the Times in an exclusive with Henry Winter.

“I’ve never seen any player like him, he’s unbelievable.

“Even in training you think you’re past him and then he comes and takes the ball straight. He has very long legs! I can only see him improving.

“Like Anthony, he’s a shy, reserved guy but confident on the pitch.”

Wan-Bissaka is clearly as highly-rated by his fellow teammates as he is by United fans. He is arguably already the best defensive full-back in the league, and now has to prioritise working on his attacking game so he can become a complete right-back.

The youngster will be kept busy on Monday night by Arsenal at Old Trafford, where he will have to deal with dangerous forwards Pierre-Emerik Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe.
