Man Utd prepared to make Maguire most expensive defender in world as talks continue

Manchester United are reportedly continuing in negotiations to sign Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire.

According to Manchester Evening News, the Reds are prepared to make the 26-year-old the most expensive defender in world football, surpassing the £75m Liverpool paid for Virgil Van Dijk (talksport).

However, United are still short of the Foxes’ valuation for Maguire, who are said to want a ridiculous £90m for their star centre-back.

Maguire still has four years left on his current deal at Leicester, who have no need to sell the Englishman.

The fee that will be needed to bring in Maguire is undoubtedly going to be excessive seen as though he is not proven to be a world-class defender.

But is seems that he has been identified as the priority defensive target by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who desperately needs a new centre-back this summer.

The Reds can not continue to rely on the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo at the back and Maguire could form a solid partnership with Swede Victor Lindelof.

With around three weeks until the transfer window shuts, we will have to wait and see if the Reds will eventually agree a deal with Leicester to sign Maguire.
