West Ham reject £45m and player in exchange for Issa Diop

Manchester United have had a bid rejected by West Ham for defender Issa Diop, according to reports.

An offer said to be worth £45m and a player in exchange was not enough to convince the Hammers to sell their centre-back.

Despite signing Phil Jones and Chris Smalling up to new deals during the past year, the Red Devils have a lot of work to do in defence. Most fans do want to see the Chuckle Brothers partner one another in the heart of United’s back four next season, but it will remain likely until Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brings in some class to bolster his defence.

French TV network RF1 (H/t The Sun) broke the news but have not named the United player whom was supposedly offered to West Ham. The club has a number of defenders on their books that need selling, so it could have been Matteo Darmian or even Marcos Rojo, but they’re wild guesses.

The 22-year-old made 38 appearances across all competitions last term and he joined the Hammers from Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse.

I still think United need an experienced figure at the back – someone younger players can look up to and learn from – but identifying those players can be tricky.
