Man Utd face losing potential world-beater to domestic rival

Sounds very Arsenal, doesn’t it?

Anthony Martial struggled this season under Jose Mourinho and talk of him leaving Manchester United is gaining pace.

According to ESPN, among the many clubs interested in Martial are Chelsea, in a deal that could involve Willian, who is reported to be unhappy with Antonio Conte’s style of football.

While I can’t warm to the idea of losing Martial to a domestic rival, I’m of the view Willian would be a better fit for United than the Frenchman. Our imbalance from the left flank to the right makes the Reds all too predictable.

Martial made 30 Premier League appearances scoring nine and recording five assists, but he wants to be starting more games.

It was a blow for Martial to be left out of Didier Deschamps’ 23-man World Cup squad, although there is no certainty that he’d have been brought if he was starting more games under Mourinho, so I don’t think it’s fair to blame the manager.

However, this could be a catalyst that has allegedly prompted Martial to favour a move to Stamford Bridge.

Whatever his preference, if he has that much beef with the current manager it would be bizarre to move somewhere with managerial uncertainty. Antonio Conte doesn’t know where he will be next season.
