Chelsea try to gazump Manchester United by opening talks with midfielder

The Londoners are in pole position to sign Nice and Ivory Coast midfielder Jean Michael Seri after talks take place.

Manchester United were heavily linked with a move for Seri in January but it didn’t quite happen for the now Chelsea target. Arsenal, Barcelona and Manchester City are also said to be interested.

Seri is available due to a £35 million release clause in his contract.

And according to L’Equipe, Chelsea have made the first move to sign the midfielder this summer. The story claims that Chelsea face strong competition despite already holding initial talks with the Ligue 1 side.

Reports in France previously suggested Seri would sign for United and replace Michael Carrick, who retires at the end of the season.

Barcelona could also reignite their interest in the summer if there’s any truth in Andre Gomes wanting to leave the club.
