Last summer Louis van Gaal was openly dissatisfied with Luke Shaw’s fitness and had his staff prepare a routine for the left back to fulfil.
Exactly a year later there seems to be some sort of breakthrough with Shaw improving fitness wise ahead of the his second pre-season tour at Manchester United.
According to the Mirror, Shaw has lost three kilos in body weight already this summer after an injury-hit debut season.
Shaw, 19, needs a break from injuries in order to impress van Gaal and his staff before cementing a regular spot in the Manchester United starting eleven. Netherlands international and current team-mate Daley Blind played the left-back role particularly well whereas Shaw showed glimpses of excellence. Without fitness it was always going to be difficult for the former Southampton defender.
Going forward Shaw looked a real prospect against Chelsea but after spending near £30 million on his last year, that’s what you expect. Work remains to be done on the defensive side of his game but we’re all confident Shaw can turn it around.
However, it’s over to Shaw now to put the hard work in. He could soon be joined at United by former team-mate Morgan Schneiderlin, who didn’t turn up to his side’s training this morning.
The lads only returned to training this morning and the early signs are positive.
