Manchester United target Ilkay Gundogan has admitted he is in negotiations with Barcelona following reports in Germany stating the midfielder is now unlikely to join Bayern Munich.
The 24-year-old Borussia Dortmund star is a free agent this summer with his contract set to expire at the end of June.
United have been closely linked with a move for the creative midfielder, who made 23 Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund this season after battling a serious back injury.
Barcelona have also been tracking Gündogan’s performances and he has now confirmed that talks are ongoing with the Spanish champions.
“Yes, we are negotiating. I have not taken any decision yet but I’m open to all possibilities. We do not know where I will play,” he was quoted as saying in Spanish newspaper Marca.
According to a Bild report on Tuesday, they are no longer talks between Bayern Munich and Ilkay Gundogan.
Wolfsburg scored three times in 16 minutes to come back from a goal down to beat Dortmund 3-1 on Saturday before landing their first German Cup final win. It was not the result Jürgen Klopp wanted as he said farewell as Dortmund coach.
