LvG: Valdes good enough to be United’s No.1

Louis van Gaal has complete confidence in second choice goalkeeper Victor Valdes, despite briefing the media with his beliefs towards David de Gea staying at United.

The former Barcelona goalkeeper made his first-team debut against Arsenal last week after de Gea picked up an injury he is currently recovering from.

Having signed on a free in January, Valdes is considered good enough to be No.1 if or when Spanish Dave jets home to Madrid.

Fans are split on the idea with pleas to sign goalkeepers such as Hugo Lloris and Petr Cech if we lose our main man this summer.

When asked if Valdes was of high enough standard to be United’s No.1, van Gaal gave the following response.

“Of course that is the case, otherwise he wouldn’t be here.”

Plain and simple. Valdes is no rookie having played a part in Barcelona’s side that dominated Europe.

The 33-year-old frequently plays from the back and that alone is a strength van Gaal likes to have in a goalkeeper. We expect this summer to be a roller coaster of a ride with speculation and uncertainty over de Gea’s future.

Granted David de Gea leaves Manchester United this summer, would you like to see Victor Valdes become our main man between the sticks?
