“That” 19th title

On an evening where title rivals Chelsea’s disastrous few months plummeted to new lows with a with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Wolves, second and third place teams Manchester City and Arsenal played out a dull scoreless draw, a loss for now 4th place Tottenham, adding to this the hilarity of the current situation at Liverpool, it has to be said, it was an amazingly productive night in Manchester United’s bid for the coveted 19th title.

In a strange season, defying many people’s expectations, United’s poor results away from home, and seemingly making life hard for ourselves with seven one goal wins and even more alarming figure of eight draws it certainly hasn’t been an easy season despite being two points clear of City with two games in hand. You would think it would be safe to say Chelsea would improve rather than be consistent in their inconsistency looking at United’s results in recent weeks? No. You would think City would be braver in their approach to games versus big teams considering the money pumped into the club? No. Arsenals likelihood to lose and draw to small teams with a vulnerable back four is certainly a positive thing in Man United’s campaign.

Though Man United have gone through their fair share of bad patches and it certainly hasn’t been the most consistent of seasons our blues look shallow when compared to the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, and while we sit pretty at the top of the table as the new year starts, and playing Liverpool in the FA cup on Sunday you can be assured their fans smugness will be at an all time low considering their league position while we fight for the 19th title and finally the ability to say that Manchester United are the most successful club in English football’s history, a stat that Liverpool fans so desperately clung to in recent years.

All in all the 2010/11 season has been an ultimately positive one so far as Manchester United go in search of “that” 19th title and we at Stretty News wish the team all the best in 2011!
