Ajax star Brian Brobbey addresses rumours linking him to a move to Manchester United

In response to rumours that he would be joining Manchester United, Brian Brobbey has stated that he will remain with Ajax in the Eredivisie.

Last week, Sky Germany reported that Man United manager Erik ten Hag identified the Holland international as one of a “two-man transfer priority list” that also included Joshua Zirkzee, the Bologna striker.

When Brobbey was eighteen, Ten Hag gave him his debut at the Johan Cruyff Arena. Now, the striker is shining as he attempts to spur John van’t Schip’s team to turnaround their season.

After being bottom of the table in the league standings in November, Ajax narrowed the distance to a Champions League qualifying slot to only six points on Sunday with a 4-1 victory over RKC, thanks to two goals from Brobbey.

The 21-year-old has not shied away from talking about a potential transfer away from Ajax, but he denied January’s rumours that he would be joining the Premier League, even if he left open the possibility of a summer transfer.

“I don’t know anything, I’ve also seen it in the news. I’m staying in Amsterdam. Can they come back in the summer? Who knows,” Brobbey said.

“No, I have no contact with Erik. We used to text sometimes, but Erik has enough on his mind and I have a new number.”

Ajax boss stated the club’s stance on the future of Brobbey and revealed that the United target is not for sale.

“As far as I’m concerned, Brian Brobbey is not for sale,” Van’t Schip said after their win at the weekend.

“I actually have the ‘not for sale’ sign hanging around his neck.

“I don’t think it would be useful if he left now. But who am I to say that? I actually think that we are now working on making this group as strong as possible and Brobbey is a very important player for that.”
