Report: Victor Lindelof to sign new Man Utd contract amid Barcelona interest

Victor Lindelof is reportedly set to sign a new contract at Manchester United.

According to Swedish outlet Aftonbladet, as cited by the Metro,  the defender is close to agreeing terms on a new deal amid talk of interest from La Liga giants Barcelona.

Lindelof currently has two years remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford, but looks now set to get a significant increase on his current £75,000 per-week contract.

Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo had claimed this summer that Barcelona had turned their attention to the Swedish international after missing out on Dutch star Mathjis De Ligt who joined Juventus.

Lindelof is turning into the defender United fans had hoped for when they signed him from Benfica, so it’s great news to hear that he is about to sign fresh terms.

The 25-year-old is now starting to mature at the back for United and gone are the old worries fans had whenever he had the ball at his feet. Lindelof looks assured with and without possession and his development as a player can only be helped by new signing Harry Maguire.

Maguire and Lindelof began what we hope is the start of a promising partnership on Sunday, where they kept a clean sheet as the Reds thrashed Frank Lampard’s Chelsea 4-0.

The pair have the potential to form one of the best centre-back partnerships in the Premier League.
