Manchester United have announced that goalkeeper Karl Darlow has withdrawn from international duty with Wales because of injury, joining Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford among the players unavailable during the September break.
The club confirmed the news in a statement on Monday, with Darlow’s specific issue not disclosed. He had been included by Craig Bellamy for Wales’ upcoming fixtures against Portugal, Denmark and Norway across September and October, but United say he is now set to miss all three.

United say each affected player will be assessed and given an individual recovery plan during the three-week international break. Mainoo and Rashford are reportedly facing injury scares of their own after both started the 1-1 draw with Fulham and were substituted before the final whistle.
Benjamin Sesko is another United player who will not be available for Slovenia while the club assesses his injury, adding a fourth name to the list of absentees heading into the break.
Lammens Remains United’s Number One
Darlow’s absence is unlikely to cause alarm at Carrington given Senne Lammens is firmly established as United’s first-choice goalkeeper. Lammens made a string of excellent saves at Craven Cottage to keep United level, only for an own goal to deny him a clean sheet he arguably deserved.

It was a difficult debut for Darlow last week regardless, with the goalkeeper culpable alongside Ayden Heaven for the mistake that let in Charalampos Kostoulas as United crashed out of the Carabao Cup to Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.

The three-week window gives United’s medical staff time to work through recovery plans for Darlow, Mainoo, Rashford and Sesko before domestic action resumes. No return dates or diagnoses have been provided for any of the four.
The wider squad-availability picture at Carrington has been a persistent theme in recent weeks, and it goes without saying Michael Carrick will want as clean a bill of health as possible when United return to action.
