Manchester United push redundancy plan with changes to US tour

Manchester United are in the process of informing staff whether they are at risk of redundancy or not. Attempts are being made to cut the current staffing levels from over 1,100 by around 250.

Erik ten Hag’s squad leave for a three-match tour of the United States on Wednesday,

Some of the staff expected to be part of the club’s tour whose job is under threat were told last week they would not be travelling, but BBC Sport understands more staff were told about proposed cuts at meetings on Tuesday.

While United are refusing to comment on the story, it’s only a matter of time before affected employees start speaking out. The media has already suggested that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s decision to significantly cut staff has seen a drop in morale around Old Trafford.

The ticket office has been under enough pressure, but cutting staff in these departments will only cause more problems for fans.

Ratcliffe is believed to be determined to drive down costs at Old Trafford.

In the summer transfer window, United have spent almost £90m on signing defender Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee.

United are also expected to bring in more players before the 2024/25 season begins.
