Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher mock Manchester United’s Champions League hopes

Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher have both aimed at Manchester United, with the Reds likely to miss out on a place in next season’s Champions League.

The duo, who provide Champions League analysis for CBS Sports in America, are revelling in our misery and couldn’t resist a pop at United during this week’s coverage.

Henry said (as quoted by The Metro): “Arsenal will be in the Champions League. Man United? Man United?”

A laughing Carragher added: “Do we cover the Conference League?”

The joke then grew legs as Henry suggested United could drop as low as ninth if results don’t pick up: “Hey, and we still don’t, you know… [know if United will qualify for that]”

I guess the pair have no other choice but to clutch at straws after the weekend their former clubs had in the Premier League. Both teams lost ground to Man City in the title race as Liverpool lost to Crystal Palace and Villa left Arsenal stunned.

Liverpool are also in the process of crashing out of the Europa League, which is hilarious considering the amount of their fans who thought they secured cheap flights for the final in Dublin.

Carragher offered listeners two nights in Dublin: “There’s two nights in Dublin if anyone wants them… and it’s on me.”

Saturday’s 2-2 draw away at Bournemouth, coupled with Aston Villa’s shock win over title-chasing Arsenal, means United are now 13 points adrift of fourth place.

Moreover, results in Europe also mean fifth place is looking less likely to become a Champions League spot ahead of next season.

We now find ourselves in a battle to simply qualify for Europe, with Newcastle moving ahead of United in the Premier League table over the weekend.

Of course, winning the FA Cup would secure United a place in the Europa League.
