In response to his remarks made after Manchester United’s victory against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup, Roy Keane predicts that Erik ten Hag will lose his job as manager “in the next few months.”
Man United legend Keane is known for his straight-forward way of talking and bold opinions in the media.
The Red Devils beat Wigan in the FA Cup at the DW Stadium on Monday. Goals from Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes made sure United beat the former Premier League team 2-0 and advance to the next round of the FA Cup.
After the win, Ten Hag said: “The FA Cup is all about winning, it is knockout. You want to finish the job. That is what I said in the dressing room ‘job done’.”
Keane was asked if he could see Ten Hag’s ideas being implemented, the Irishman answered:
“No, not really. I think that’s the problem with United, you know what you’re going to get when you turn up.”
The United manager mentioned the word ‘project’ which particularly angered Keane, who was working for ITV.
Keane said: “The manager there mentions the ‘project’ – it probably means he’ll be gone in the next few months. This dreaded word ‘project’. No, I didn’t see it tonight with United and I’ve not seen it for the last few months.
“But, again, they’re in the next round and it’s an easy draw the next time round, but you need a better level of performance. And the chances they made tonight, you always expect more.”
Man United will play Tottenham, who are now in fifth position, in their return to the Premier League on Sunday.
United’s last Premier League outing ended up being an embarrassment for the club as they were beaten 3-2 by Nottingham Forest.
With the team sitting in eighth place now, results in the league need to improve soon to have any hope of making it to the top four.
