Jadon Sancho says he has been “a scapegoat for a long time” after Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said he was dropped for Sunday’s game at Arsenal because of poor training performance.
I initially thought this was just a slap on the wrist, and am example of the manager demanding higher standards from his players. I mean, that would explain why Sancho is not getting into the starting line-up.
The same could be said about his international career because he doesn’t get selected by Gareth Southgate anymore.
Sancho did not travel to the Emirates Stadium for the game, which United lost 3-1 despite an opening goal from Marcus Rashford.
When asked why by reporters after the match, Ten Hag said Sancho had not reached the ‘level’ required to be included.
This led to Sancho releasing a statement on social media, which he used to call the manager a liar.
“Please don’t believe everything you read,” Sancho wrote.
“I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself very well in training this week.
“I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!”

The 23-year-old has struggled for consistent form since he joined the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.
Something isn’t right and it doesn’t look like Sancho wants to take responsibility.
Sancho suddenly sounds like a player that didn’t get a move he wanted in the final days of the transfer window.
