Manchester United won’t wait around forever for Harry Kane this summer.
The Red Devils are set to test the Tottenham Hotspur board’s resolve in the forthcoming transfer window to try and oversee the incoming of their all-time top goalscorer.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is unwilling to sanction the exit of his star man, and even more so to a Premier League rival.
With Real Madrid eyeing the England captain as Karim Benzema’s successor, they may boast a stronger chance of prising him from Levy’s grasp.
However, the Spanish giants have just agreed a deal to see sought-after starlet Jude Bellingham arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu for around £86 million, which may mean that they are now priced out of a potential deal for Kane, given that he will cost over £100 million.
The 29-year-old could put pressure on the Tottenham board to accept a bid should it arrive from either Madrid or United this summer, as he looks to acquire silverware, and that doesn’t seem to be coming anytime soon in N17.
Kane is also 47 goals away from knocking Alan Shearer off the top spot to become the Premier League’s all-time top ‘scorer, having also become England’s in the past season.
The Athletic’s latest report says: “Ten Hag is said to feel United do have a genuine chance of signing Kane. Some believe the Tottenham chief, while happy to take negotiations to the end of the window, does need to sell this summer.”
United seek Kane alternatives
Still, United are preparing alternatives if their pursuit of Kane fails. 20-year-old Rasmus Hojlund has been identified as a realistic addition to the squad, as per The Athletic.
He is open to becoming a Red and Atalanta will demand a fee in the region of £40 million, which is affordable for United. The club will then reignite their pursuit of Spurs’ main man in 2024 when his contract expires.
The young Dane scored 16 goals and picked up 7 assists in all competitions last season.
