Erik ten Hag sends message to promising youth players at Manchester United

Manchester United’s award-winning duo from the academy Kobbie Main and Dan Gore will be dreaming about successful futures at Old Trafford. They’ve both been warned that it takes hard work to make the first team, with Alejandro Garnacho used a prime example by the manager.

Robbie Mainoo picked up the prestigious Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award, previously won by Garnacho, while Dan Gore collected the Reserve-Team Player of the Year accolade.

The question now is how far away are these boys from making the grade of first team football. Not only in the Premier League, but in a team that wants to challenge on all fronts.

All of our youth players have a manager in Ten Hag who will find a path into the team for them if the time is right. Firstly, they have all been asked to continue the hard work into next season if they want to make the next level at this club.

Speaking to United’s media department (via ManUtd.com), Ten Hag praised the young duo and stressed there is a ‘pathway’ for them to break into the team.

“Yeah they did well [in first-team training],” Ten Hag said. “They deserved it and that is always what has to be the case.

“Like Alejandro Garnacho, [who won the Jimmy Murphy award] last season, you see the path is open but they have to deserve their position.

“I hope this trophy will motivate them and stimulate them to bring more because that is necessary if you want to get a place in the first team, the first squad, of this club.”
