Manchester United outline Olivier Giroud as potential striker option

Manchester United are interested in AC Milan’s Olivier Giroud, who is out of contract in the summer.

According to The Times, the Red Devils may turn to an option like Giroud after showing reluctance to pay Joao Felix’s loan fee or wages.

The report does, however, state that the striker is expecting to receive a new contract offer from the reigning Serie A champions.

Erik ten Hag has confirmed his desire to sign a forward this winter and Giroud is regarded as one of the best in the game; he is France’s all-time top goalscorer with 53 and has netted 246 times at club level.

He has a plethora of experience in the Premier League due to his previous spells at both Chelsea and Arsenal.

Stretty News’ verdict

If United were to seriously pursue Giroud, it is only a short-term solution. I have no doubts he would be able to contribute significantly to the club but he is now 36 and is not someone we can rely on for future seasons.

The time to get him would be now rather than the summer. He is on the back of a prolific World Cup campaign with Les Bleus and United’s owners are unwilling to invest this month, whereas the summer could look completely different under new ownership and we could find a younger alternative, like Victor Osimhen, for example.
