Three Manchester United players feature in Sofascore’s Team of the Tournament following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
A month of football has delivered thrills and drama and we are delighted to welcome Lisandro Martinez back to Manchester with a World Cup medal in his pocket.
Although Martinez played a key role in Argentina’s triumph with four appearances throughout the tournament, he is not one of the three United players to make Sofascore’s team, which was selected through a statistical eye. They include Harry Maguire, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.
All players starred for their countries. Some might be surprised by Maguire’s mention, but he showed by Gareth Southgate was right to start him throughout the tournament.
Fernandes registered 2 goals and 3 assists in 4 matches, while Casemiro played the anchor role for a Brazil side that crashed out of the tournament earlier than most expected — in the quarter-finals.
Sofascore’s team also includes former United defender Daley Blind as well as transfer target Cody Gakpo.
