Anthony Martial is finally fit for action after a lengthy spell on the sidelines and is rearing to get playing regular football under Erik ten Hag.

In the short cameos Martial has made this season, he has looked a significant threat for United in the attack.

For example, in just 158 minutes of action, he has scored three goals and assisted two, showing why he is Ten Hag’s first-choice striker when fit.

It hasn’t always been plain sailing for the Frenchman in Manchester, though. Last season, he made only 18 appearances in all competitions for the Reds before departing for Spain on a loan move to Sevilla.

His best spell in a United shirt was across the 2019/2020 campaign. His link-up play with Marcus Rashford was outstanding, as well as having Bruno Fernandes in fine form to provide assists.

That season, Martial scored 23 goals and assisted 12 in all competitions. Numbers he, and the fans will be hoping to recreate when he is back on the pitch.

Martial has his say

In an interview with club media via ManUtd.com, Martial gave an update on life at the club lately.

Regarding Ten Hag, he said: “He’s a very good manager and very meticulous person, who pays attention to all the details.

“He wants us to produce good football with a desire to press for the loss of the ball. It’s perfect for me, my style of play.”

Speaking on the ever-faithful Old Trafford crowd, he added: “It’s an incredible feeling to step onto the pitch and have 75,000 people in every game.

“It’s incredible for us and it’s up to us to do everything to give it back to them and make them happy.”

Martial also touched on United’s new arrivals over the summer, saying: “We brought in some very good players this summer. They’ve adapted very well and were very happy to have them.

“When there’s competition, you have to continue to put in great performances to keep your place, it’s a good thing for the team.”
