Raphael Varane is set to miss three to four weeks with a hamstring injury which means he won’t play for Manchester United again before the World Cup.

It is the news we all feared on Saturday when Varane went down. The French centre-back was reduced to tears because he thought his World Cup dreams were over – when in truth, he is only set to miss a couple of United matches.

That isn’t good for our season but when I look at the three league games we have between now and the World Cup – West Ham, Aston Villa and Fulham – I think we should be able to call upon Victor Lindelof. Furthermore Harry Maguire is set to return from injury.

An earlier report stated that Varane had sustained a hamstring injury.

Varane had an MRI scan on Sunday and ESPN claim he saw the diagnosis as positive because he still has a chance of helping France defend the World Cup in Qatar next month.

The injury gives France manager Didier Deschamps something to think about because Varane is likely to miss their opening game against Australia on November 22.

Let us know how you think United should line up without Varane in the team?
