Manchester United have recovered from a poor start to the season to get themselves back on track to achieve some of their objectives this campaign.

Erik ten Hag endured a troublesome start when his lethargic side succumbed to back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Brentford but four wins on the spin have fired the Reds into fifth in the table.

Two attacking players, in particular, have been at the heart of United’s resurgence, with Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford gaining momentum with each passing week.

Thus far, neither player has been involved in any of the England camps in 2022 but that could be about to change ahead of next week’s international break – the final one before the World Cup in Qatar.

According to the Daily Mail, Sancho and Rashford are both set to be recalled to the England fold as Gareth Southgate assesses his options for the final time.

As per the report, both players are likely to be named in Southgate’s squad for the final rehearsal before they start their campaign for a first major trophy since 1966.

SN’s verdict…
It can be argued that Southgate’s ruthless dropping of Sancho and Rashford was unfair to start with – especially considering how integral they were to the Three Lions qualifying for their most recent tournament.

On this season’s showing, Sancho and Rashford are England’s best two wingers and it can’t have been well received by the players when they learned that underperforming stars such as Jack Grealish and Mason Mount were being picked ahead of them.

Nevertheless, England stand a better chance of going far in the tournament if Sancho and Rashford are in the squad and they will be keen to impress later this month.
