Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest, who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, appears to be heading to Italy on deadline day.
Perhaps the biggest reason for Dest being linked with a loan move to United stems from the fact he played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax, like a lot of our targets this summer.
However, the United States international joined Barcelona in 2020 but things didn’t go to plan at Camp Nou, and he has fallen down Xavi’s pecking order for a place in the line-up.
Dest is now set for a loan switch to AC Milan with the deal including an option to sign him permanently for €20 million, as per Fabrizio Romano.
It is believed that United did not make a formal offer for Dest because Aaron Wan-Bissaka was always unlikely to leave this summer. Not because he is rated by the coaches but because there wasn’t any real serious interest – when it came to meeting United’s asking price.
Dest has already arrived in Milan to begin his medical tests ahead of completing his move. He made 72 appearances for Barcelona, but he was left out of the matchday squad by Xavi for the first three La Liga games of this season.
A move to Milan will see the 17-cap USA international play regular football ahead of the World Cup in November.
