Erik ten Hag’s reign as Manchester United got off to a tough start as his team suffered a 2-1 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion last week in their Premier League opener.
The new manager will be hoping his players bounce back strongly against Brentford in the 5.30pm kick-off this evening.
Although Thomas Frank has been running his mouth a little — in a bid to pile more pressure on United ahead of the game — I think we can expect a response of some sort this evening.
Speaking about what fans should expect from Manchester United this season, Ten Hag told reporters (via ManUtd.com): “I will not say it’s always easy, but I think Man United stands for trophies, and that has to be the standard that everyone has to expect.
“We cannot live with lower standards, because then we will not get back to where we need to be.”
Ten Hag has a mighty task on his hands to deliver success at United.
He won’t achieve that without setting higher standards and I think he did that over the summer.
Sir Alex Ferguson had a similar job in the late 1980s but Manchester United is a different animal, with the greatest manager of all-time to thank for that.
It won’t happen overnight and fans will need to patient.
Moreover, it would help if the board could start delivering Ten Hag’s demands in the transfer market.
