There is no denying that Harry Redknapp has contacts within the game after spending 34 years as a football manager, but I find it hard to believe that he knows Frenkie de Jong’s preference over a move should the Netherlands international leave Barcelona.
After announcing his retirement from football management five-years ago, the 75-year-old has done several adverts, interviews and appeared on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.
Redknapp claims Frenkie de Jong claims wants to go to Chelsea – which I find hard to believe as the player continues to stress that he wants to stay at Camp Nou. Furthermore, De Jong will not discuss his future with Chelsea or United until Barcelona pay him the €17m he is owed in deferred wages.
Speaking to The Byline, Redknapp said: “Now it looks like Frenkie De Jong wants to go to Chelsea. I know that for a fact, he wants to go to Chelsea.
“Manchester United are not going to get him. I’ve had that from somebody right at the very, very, very top at Man United. He’s made up [his mind], he really wants to go to Chelsea.
“So if he goes to Chelsea, and Man United don’t get him, I don’t know where they’re going and if Chelsea get him obviously he’ll be a fantastic signing for them.”
How close is Redknapp to De Jong’s agent Ali Dursun?
