John Murtough meets with Benjamin Sesko agent as United ponder transfer

Manchester United football director John Murtough met with Benjamin Sesko’s agent last week, according to reports.

The RB Salzburg striker has emerged as a target with Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano stressing that United have ‘concrete’ interest in the 19-year-old.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Murtough had a meeting with Sesko’s agent, Elvis Basanovic, last weekend to gauge the possibility of a transfer.

Samuel Luckhurst reports: “United are in the market for at least one attacking option, preferably two. United approached the 20-year-old Brian Brobbey, who played under manager Erik ten Hag on loan at Ajax last season, but the Dutchman left RB Leipzig for Ajax permanently earlier this month.”

Sesko has already opened his account in the Austrian Bundesliga this season with one goal in as many games. He then scored the winner in Salzburg’s friendly win over Liverpool to cap off a brilliant 45-minute display.

However, the Slovenian is under contract at Salzburg until 2026. The Austrian outfit want to keep Sesko for another season which will see his market value rise, so maybe it would be a good idea to get a deal done this summer — even if we have to pay slightly more than what we feel is necessary.

We are likely to see Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial start the Premier League season against Brighton next Sunday as the front three. They have all shown good form over the summer and should have more confidence than last season.

Cristiano Ronaldo may be in contention, however, I can’t see him starting the first game of the season after missing the pre-season tour in Thailand and Australia.

The Portuguese star could face Rayo Vallecano on Sunday in the final pre-season tour friendly as Ten Hag takes control of his first game at Old Trafford.
