Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left Manchester United at the end of last year and thus far, he has escaped links to any high-profile jobs as he takes some time off before embarking on a new chapter.
Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho at United in 2018 and his impressive stint as interim boss earned him the permanent gig just months later.
He would go on to guide United to third and second-place finishes in the league but his third full season was a catastrophe, which culminated in the club’s worst Premier League campaign ever.
Since his dismissal in November last year, he has kept a low profile but now, there are reports that he has been approached over a new job.
That’s according to French publication Foot Mercato, via Get Football News France, who say that Iran are on the hunt for a new manager and that the former United boss was earmarked as a possible candidate.

As per the report, Iran appreciate Solskjaer’s managerial profile but the Norwegian’s short-term priorities mean that ultimately, taking the reigns in Iran was never an option for the United hero.
It’s claimed that Iran even prioritised Solskjaer’s appointment as they search for a replacement for Dragan Skocic, who was sacked earlier this week.

Despite the sour ending, Solskjaer’s three years at United definitely enhanced his reputation and when he’s ready to tackle management again, he will have no shortage of offers.
To date, he remains the best manager United have had since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. His demise at Old Trafford was unfortunate and unpredictable but the experience will prepare him for whatever’s next.
A role with the Norwegian national team has been discussed in the past and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him take over after this winter’s World Cup.
