Fabrizio Romano confirms Man Utd have scheduled medical for midfield signing

Manchester United have shifted gears in the transfer market and more than one signing is expected before they leave for their pre-season tour on Friday.

Tyrell Malacia will become Erik ten Hag’s first signing at the club, with the 22-year-old confirming the move earlier on Tuesday in an interview.

And now, it has emerged that Christian Eriksen is likely to become the second signing of the summer after accepting a three-year contract proposal from the club.

Eriksen is a free agent after leaving Brentford, having impressed in his brief stint at the London club following his release from Inter Milan.

Ten Hag will hope to have the Danish international on the plane to Thailand on Friday and that is becoming increasingly likely after journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that a medical has already been scheduled.

As per the report, the 30-year-old will sign a three-year deal after undergoing his medical. Furthermore, he is believed to have held talks with Ten Hag, with those discussions described as a ‘key factor’.

In another boost to Ten Hag’s hopes of including fresh faces on the trip to Thailand, Romano adds that the club is working to announce the former Tottenham star and Malacia’s arrivals this week.

SN’s verdict…
Eriksen is definitely shrewd piece of business from United, who will see him as an upgrade on the departing Juan Mata. Eriksen is likely to play a bigger role, however.

There were several senior departures in midfield this summer and United’s transfer targets point to a willingness to strengthen that area more than any other.

Eriksen was not short of offers this summer and after deciding to sign for United, it’s fair to assume that he has been promised a chance to feature regularly in the side.
