Raphael Varane sends Lewis Hamilton message following racial abuse

Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has sent Lewis Hamilton a message of support after the legendary Formula 1 driver was the victim of vile racial abuse.

The Formula 1 world was thrown into a state of shock when Nelson Piquet, the iconic driver, appeared to launch racial slurs at Hamilton in a 2021 interview.

Since his appalling remarks, the 69-year-old has been warned that he will face punishment unless he issues a public apology to Hamilton.

Hamilton has addressed the issue on social media and now, United defender Varane has become the latest public figure to offer his support.

“There is no place for racism in any sport, industry, or walk of life,” Varane wrote on Twitter, as seen above. “Lewis, continue to shine the great light that you do. I stand with you.”

Piquet is yet to respond to the criticism or apologise for his comments.
