German reporter claims Ralf Rangnick wants Timo Werner at United

German football reporter Christian Falk believes Manchester United’s new interim boss Ralf Rangnick wants to discuss a possible transfer for Chelsea striker Timo Werner.

The pair have history as Rangnick bought Werner for RB Leipzig from Stuttgart and helped build his career in the Bundesliga, before Chelsea triggered his €50m release clause (via Sky Sports) in June 2020.

Falk adds that Rangnick remains close to Werner, but I don’t think this will excite many United fans because the Germany international has looked a flop since coming to the Premier League.

I’m not saying he isn’t talented as I don’t watch anywhere near enough of Chelsea’s matches to properly evaluate their players, although it was a relief to see him in the starting line-up against United on Sunday.

Whenever I watch Werner, he misses sitters. He deserves credit for getting into dangerous positions, but boy, is he prone to squandering a chance. This season he has managed 3 goals from 12 appearances – as well as 1 assist to his name.

However, after reading the news from Falk, I spotted that he has linked not one player to United – but four in the space of an hour on Twitter, all with separate links to United’s new interim manager.

They include Erling Haaland, Amadou Haidara and Christipher Nkunku.

It appears as though Rangnick’s arrival at Manchester United has got a few football reporters giddy in Germany.
