After winning their first pre-season run-out against Derby last week, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leaves Loftus Road with a first defeat but will be happy to have seen his players gain fitness in a tough game against a resilient QPR side.
The West London side were clearly far sharper and ahead in pre-season preparations as they completely overran a young United side in the second half.
United took an early lead through Jesse Lingard but Charlie Austin leveled the scores just minutes after as the two sides went into half-time all even.
A flurry of goals quickly after the interval meant that Mark Warburton’s side found themselves three goals to the good and Anthony Elanga’s fine left-footed strike was a mere consolation.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has been rewarded for his fine work with a new three-year deal, delivered his verdict on the game following the final whistle.
“You’re never happy when you concede goals but it was a good exercise again, and good learning for some of the young ones,” the manager told the MUTV broadcast. “It’s a check where we are and a test where we are for the older and more experienced ones as well.
“Towards the end, enjoyed the football the kids played, they could have crumbled after the goals we conceded, but they got hold of the ball and scored a very good goal.
“We could have had three or four more goals. There was some very good movement from Anthony Elanga, with his energy, enthusiasm, pace, and quality. There’s not too much to worry about.”
