Manchester United edging closer to Raphael Varane deal

Manchester United appear to be making progress in their hunt to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are ‘inching closer every day’ towards finalising a deal for the 28-year-old.

The Frenchman, who is on an extended holiday after playing for France at Euro 2020, apparently wants to head straight to Manchester rather than return to Real Madrid for any pre-season training.

Sources have told the outlet that United are expected to sign the centre-back for a ‘good price’ and his fee is not expected to be a sticking point anymore.

With just one year left on Varane’s contract, Real Madrid find themselves in a sticky situation because they have no intention of allowing him leave without obtaining a fee.

There is no denying that Harry Maguire had a brilliant Euro 2020 campaign alongside John Stones, who Jamie O’Hara laughably says is better than Varane, so we can live in hope that such an addition will make a huge difference next season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be aiming to close the gap between United and Man City.
