‘A credit to Manchester United’ – Solskjaer rooting for Fred-inspired Brazil in Copa America final

The finals of Euro 2020 and the Copa America take place this weekend and Manchester United have four players in the hunt for a trophy.

But the one player Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer singled out was Brazil’s Fred, who deserved immense credit for getting fit in time to help his country reach the Copa America final.

The boss spoke about how Fred picked up an injury in our last league game of the season, and only came on as a substitute against Villarreal in Gdansk. It has impressed him how the midfielder got his head down and worked really hard to get his fitness in check.

It’s clear Fred’s performances for Brazil have caught an eye at Carrington.

“I have to put particular praise to Fred,” Solskjaer told the official Manchester United website, in his first interview of the pre-season, when he also spoke about the arrival of Tom Heaton and contract extensions given to Juan Mata and Lee Grant.

“I’ve got to say, at the end of the season, he got an injury in the last league game. We thought he wouldn’t make it for the [Europa League] final as he didn’t train the whole week before our own final, and he’s just put his head down and worked really hard.

“He trained the day before the final and came on and played. He’s just played throughout the summer and that’s some going. Some players with that injury wouldn’t be in training football now. He’s been a credit to Manchester United and himself in the way he’s conducted himself.”

Michael Carrick has also been quick to praise the midfielder after watching his performances this summer, as per ManUtd.com, yet I still have questions over whether he should be a starter at United.

Only Argentina stand in Fred’s way.
