Manchester United reach agreement on personal terms with Raphael Varane

After reaching an agreement with Borussia Dortmund over the transfer of Jadon Sancho, Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on a defender. The club has identified central defense as a position in need of strengthening and amid links with Raphael Varane, reports now claim that an agreement has been reached with the player.

That’s according to ABC Deportes, who claim that the Real Madrid has agreed on personal terms with Manchester United. Varane, 28, was expected to be involved in this summer’s European Championship for at least another week but his France side were unexpectedly eliminated in the quarter-finals.

According to the publication, Varane’s agreement with Manchester United is for a five-year contract and €12m annually in wages. It is also reported that whilst Real Madrid’s offer is substantially lower, the defender is hoping that the two clubs can reach an agreement over a fee.

ABC claims that Manchester United are offering €45m for the player, which is €10m short of Real Madrid’s asking price.
