Manchester United could be dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of major honours as reports claim that the club are fearing the loss of Paul Pogba on a free transfer. Pogba returned to Old Trafford in 2016 for a then world record fee of £94.5m but has just one year remaining on his contract.

The 28-year-olds time at United, before and after his big-money move, has been clouded by controversies and should Pogba leave on a free transfer, scrutiny on the decision makers at the club will reach a new high. With just 12 months remaining on his original deal, Pogba is free to negotiate with foreign clubs in January next year.

According to ESPN, Manchester United will seek contract talks with Pogba’s entourage after the Euro’s but fear that a free transfer next year is possible.

The report also claims that no top European club have been in contact with the club over a transfer, but that Paris-Saint Germain, Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all interested in signing him for nothing in 2022.

Despite Mino Raiola’s antics, the club has not given up on hope that Pogba will commit to a new long-term contract. It would be especially embarrassing for United to lose Pogba for nothing and many would find it hard to forgive the Frenchman for running his contract down after the club broke their transfer record to bring him back.
