Manchester United in talks with Atletico Madrid over £15m right-back

Manchester United have opened talks with Atlético Madrid to sign Kieran Trippier, according to reports. The right-back is believed to have been close to joining United in the last January window but a deal collapsed due to the players gambling investigation.

It was revealed earlier this week that United’s interest in Trippier remained, despite that a deal had fallen through. Trippier, who left Tottenham for Spain in a reported €20 million move two years ago, is from Manchester and would relish a return.

And according to The Athletic (£), director of football negotiations Matt Judge is in dialogue over Trippier. Talks with the La Liga champions ‘have commenced’ as Solskjær wants a ready-mate player to give Aaron Wan-Bissaka competition.

United have struggled for options at right-back, with Axel Tuanzebe and Brandon Williams deputizing for Wan-Bissaka but have failed to make a lasting impression. Diogo Dalot will return from loan but his future is still in doubt.

The Athletic go on to say that Trippier would like a return to the north-west, despite enjoying his two-year spell in Spain. A return to the Premier League is believed to be appealing.

Trippier, who has two years remaining on his contract, is one of the first names Diego Simeone’s team-sheet but Atletico could be open to a deal.
