Solskjaer plans for 3 Manchester United signings this summer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not expect ‘many outgoings’ at Manchester United this summer.

The manager is aiming to sign a minimum three players this summer, and we all know how that depends on the board doing their homework in the transfer window.

“We’re planning as we normally do,” Solskjaer said following a question about the upcoming transfer window, at today’s press conference (via MEN). “It’s not like end of season, and let’s see what we do, that’s an ongoing process, looking at the squad, players who are going to stay, players who might be leaving.

“And, as I said a couple of times recently, I hope we’re going to strengthen with two or three players we definitely need to challenge higher up in the table. We’re still too behind to think it’s just going to come by itself.

“We’ve had a few players on loan that might come back in, there is interest in a few others, maybe going out. But you want to come out of the transfer window strengthened and it might be we allow some players to out and gain experience, come back stronger for it.

“Apart from that, it’s difficult to say. I can’t see too many outgoings.”

As is the case every year, United are being linked with every footballer under the moon. From Raphael Varane, Paul Torres and Declan Rice to Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and Harry Kane. The list goes on.

I would argue that there should be quite a few outgoings this summer. Definitely Jesse Lingard, Diogo Dalot, Andreas Pereira, Nemanja Matic, Sergio Romero, Joel Pereira and Juan Mata.

That’s eight players.

Another factor we must weigh in is whether Dean Henderson will be first choice goalkeeper next season. I can’t see both David de Gea and Hendo being at the club next season, so Solskjaer has a number of big decisions to make over the coming weeks.

I would like to see James Garner get a Premier League loan, somewhere he’ll play most weeks after impressing in the Championship at Nottingham Forest. A year on and he could be knocking on the first-team door. Fingers crossed.
