Announcement next week: Edinson Cavani decides to stay at Manchester United – report

Last night it was clear Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been trying to persuade Edinson Cavani to stay after the veteran’s unbelievable performance against Roma to give Manchester United a huge advantage in reaching this season’s Europa League.

We have failed at the semi-final stage of various competitions on four occasions over the last two seasons. That’s not good enough but we’re now seeing a different outcome after adding a world-class striker to the side.

On Thursday night Roma had gone into half-time of the first leg ahead after Bruno Fernandes’ opener was cancelled out by a Lorenzo Pellegrini penalty, before ex-City forward Edin Dzeko gave them the lead.

Cavani fired home a stunning equaliser to get the ball rolling for United and he earned the man of the match award for his two goals on the night.

“Edinson was excellent, as a centre forward should be playing — running the channels, being a focal point, creating chances for others, scoring goals, missing a couple of chances as well,” Solskjaer said after United’s 6-2 win over Roma, as per Irish Examiner. “Absolutely delighted with him.”

The manager went on to explain how Cavani is aware of Solskjaer’s request to stay at the club for another season.

However, ESPN journalist Moisés Llorens has good news for Mr. Solskjaer, with claims Cavani has decided to stay at United for another year.

When he throw the tweet into Google Translate, it spits out:

“Edinson Cavani has decided to continue at Man Utd.

“Next week it should be made official.

“He had doubts but, despite the interest of Boca Juniors, will fulfil the contract.”
