Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks set to receive a bumper new contract to remain as Manchester United manager.

The Mirror claim Solskjaer ‘has won a new £9 million a year contract at Manchester United.’

They add that sources have told the publication talks are set to begin any day on a new deal.

Reactions on Twitter have been mixed while many fans simply don’t really know what to think (me!).

That comes from the fact Solskjaer is coming up to his third anniversary as manager without any silverware to show for it.

Does the club need to strike a deal now or can they wait until the season ends? I’m not saying that as someone who doesn’t want Solskjaer to get a new deal, I do once we succeed.

The club hardly expect talks to be hijacked by another super club between now and the end of the season, so I’m just questioning why now is the right time?

United appear to be on a better path, arguably the most inviting of the post-Ferguson era, but something needs to show for it and the team is good enough to win the FA Cup and Europa League. We also stand a very good chance of doing better in the league by finishing runners-up.

Why now? What is the rush?
