Manchester United chase latest wonderkid to emerge from MLS

Manchester United are always on the lookout for the freshest talent.

We saw that last summer when the club made moves to sign Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo. Two young right wingers with the world at their feet.

Nobody knows yet how good either player will become in the coming years but they’re at United and it’s exciting that it is Old Trafford where they are being tipped to blossom.

This year it sounds like Toronto FC talent Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty could be the man we target. The 16-year-old forward made his MLS debut last October, and Tuttosport claim United are one of the clubs interested in his signature.

North America is on everyone’s radar after the success of Alfonso Davies – winning the Champions League last season with Bayern Munich. The question those at Old Trafford will be asking is ‘will Marshall-Rutty be the next player to star from that production line?’

“I’d say to get compared to [Davies], obviously I was honoured, but I don’t really look at breaking history as the youngest player,” Marshall-Rutty told Goal. “He’s at Bayern Munich and he’s achieved so much, obviously. He paved the path for young players like me, but I just think the most important thing when you’re younger is just to stay focused on the soccer side. All that young history stuff doesn’t really matter at the end of the day.”

However, there are growing expectations that there could be a race to sign the young Canadian this summer. United are not the only club linked with Marshall-Rutty.

Also named in the running for his signing include Chelsea, Man City, Bayern Munich and Juventus.
