Exclusive: Man United in sporting director talks with Juve chief scout Matteo Tognozzi

Manchester United have identified Juventus’ chief scout Matteo Tognozzi as a possible candidate to become the club’s sporting director.

Tognozzi became Juventus’ chief scout in 2017 following successful recruitment roles at Zenit St.Petersburg, Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburg.

The highly-rated scout is regarded as one of Europe’s most pioneering recruitment specialists.

After establishing a solid working relationship with Juventus’ former general manager Giuseppe Marotta, the pair have been the masterminds behind a hugely successful transfer strategy.

Several key signings, such as Wojciech Szczesny and Weston McKennie have been viewed as shrewd pieces of business.

The Old Lady’s modern transfer strategy has arguably paved the way for the Turin side to continue in their Serie A dominance.

In light of Tognozzi’s impressive recruitment credentials, it is now just a matter of time before the European’s next step-up comes by way of a sporting director role.

It has recently been reported that Celtic are hopeful they can reach an agreement with Tognozzi, however, Stretty News understands that the Scottish side are in direct competition with United.

A source close to Tognozzi has confirmed to us that the Red Devils’ hierarchy are in talks with the chief scout.

We understand that senior officials at United are putting together an offer which they hope would see Tognozzi snub Celtic and take the reins at Old Trafford instead.

Talks are understood to be underway, however, it has also been suggested to us that should a suitable offer be presented, Tognozzi would welcome the United sporting director’s role.
