Manchester United’s new signing Amad Diallo has been fined £42,000 in Italy over allegations he used fake documents to move to Europe from Ivory Coast.
Diallo was called into the first team for the first team last night as United booked their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals, with a 1-0 win over West Ham after extra-time. The Ivorian winger didn’t feature and has only played with the U23s to date.
The FIGC, Italian football’s governing body, has handed out a fine after the 18-year-old winger and his brother Hamed – currently playing for Serie A side Sassuolo – accepted a plea bargain to avoid a ban, according to the Daily Mail.
A statement said the two players used “false certifications that had allowed them to reunite in Italy with fictitious parents.”
It added: “The two requested ‘the application of the sanction pursuant to art. 126 of the Code of Sports Justice’, that is, the plea bargain: the Federal Prosecutor’s Office has thus imposed a penalty of 48 thousand euros for Amad Diallo and another 48 thousand euros for Hamed Traore.’”
The false documents were reportedly sued so Diallo could sign for junior club Boca Barco in 2015.
If Manchester United are doing background checks on their signings I’m sure they were aware of this in the summer. And it doesn’t change anything about his current status as a United player, so there’s nothing to worry about.
It does seem a bit fishy because it is also alleged that Amad Diallo Traore was not the player’s real name and Hamed may not even be his brother. The player decides to wear just ‘Amad’ on the back of his shirt.
