Southampton teenager Alexandre Jankewitz has been sent off 79 seconds into his full Premier League debut for a horror challenge on Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.
The 19-year-old Swiss midfielder caught McTominay high with a nasty challenge, giving referee Mike Dean absolutely no option but to dismiss him with under two minutes of the game played.
McTominay was seen with stud marks down his inner left thigh, a reflection of how dangerous the challenge was.
Fortunately, the Scottish international was otherwise unscathed after a tackle that could have caused serious injury.
Jankewitz’s red card has given the Saints a huge task to do against United who now have the full game to maximise their one-man advantage.
