Luke Shaw is set to be recalled for England in the next International break after impressing Gareth Southgate with his displays for Manchester United so far this season.

That’s according to The Star and I think most fans have expected the news. Shaw showed some improvements last season and while I still felt we needed another left-back, it’s promising to see him kick on some more and against RB Leipzig he did better than usual to get forward and contributed excellent crosses into the box.

Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell has made the left-back spot his own but his injury struggles may also influence Southgate’s decision to recall Shaw.

I don’t really care either way because my priority has always been club over country. As long as Shaw stays fit and continues to improve I’m happy.

But he hasn’t played for England since September 2018 (2-1 defeat vs Spain).

Shaw was included in a squad back in March 2019 but had to pull out due to injury.

Danny Rose is no longer part of Southgate’s selection plans, so perhaps this is good timing for Shaw to prove his worth to England in the lead up to Euro 2021. He would have been waiting for this moment because his performances over the past year have warranted another call up.

Hopefully it goes to plan for Shaw and he puts in another strong display against Arsenal later today.

Southgate will be watching!
