Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has been urged by Danny Mills to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in order for the Reds to progress as the Norwegian’s position continues to come under intense criticism.
Solskjaer was appointed as United’s interim manager in December 2018 following the sacking of current Spurs manager Jose Mourinho.
Following a rich vein of form including a stunning 3-2 Champions League comeback against Ligue 1 giants Paris-Saint Germain the Norwegian’s position was subsequently made permanent in March 2019.
Solskjaer helped guide the Reds to a top-four finish after finishing in third place at the end of the 2019-20 season, although silverware did end up eluding the current boss after crushing semi-final defeats in both the FA Cup and Europa League meant the Reds finished last campaign empty handed.
After a recent spate of disappointing performances at the beginning of the 2020-21 season and with an extremely tough batch of fixtures throughout October to come, Solskjaer has once again found his job come under threat.
According to former professional Danny Mills who spoke live on TalkSPORT earlier today Reds’ executive vice-chairman Woodward should considering ditching Solskjaer, as quoted by Express, Mills said: “What can Manchester United do right now to change what they’re doing on the pitch? The only thing you can do is change the manager.
“Let’s say Leeds lose their manager right now, [Marcelo] Bielsa goes, he’s had enough, he walks out.
“Okay, who do I want to replace him? You start looking at the names and you go: ‘[Jose] Mourinho, yes, Pep [Guardiola] yes, [Jurgen] Klopp, yes, [Carlo] Ancelotti, yep, Brendan Rodgers, yep, David Moyes, probably, Frank Lampard, yes, [Mikel] Arteta, yes’.
“And then you start to think about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – not convinced.
“He’s half way down the list at least and that’s without the likes of [Mauricio] Pochettino coming into the mix, people who are out of a job right now.
“So the only thing you can change at Manchester United to improve them and improve the mentality, is the manager.
“He’s not necessarily a bad coach but he’s inexperienced at this level and he looks out of his depth at times.”
