Manchester United may have to pursue other attacking options in this summer’s transfer window as it looks increasingly unlikely Jadon Sancho will be moving to Old Trafford.
According to the Mirror, United are prepared to put their attempts to sign Sancho on hold after no progress in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of the England forward.
It is claimed United see Dortmund’s £108m valuation too excessive in the current market and a compromise would need to be made for a deal to be agreed.
An alternative to Sancho that United have reportedly been considering is Juventus fringe player Douglas Costa.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport claim United have had a £27m opening offer rejected for the skilful Brazilian winger.
The report suggests Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is an admirer of Costa, but United are up to €10m off Juventus’ valuation for the 29-year-old.
Solskjaer requires a winger who can provide competition to the frontline next season and Costa would bring a wealth of experience to Old Trafford.
But he is hardly the type of arrival that would appease fans if United miss out on first-choice Sancho in this window.
Costa turns 30 next month, and has scored just one Serie A goal in each of the last two seasons for Juventus.
