Reports suggest Roma are struggling to meet Manchester United’s valuation of centre-back Chris Smalling.
The England international has had a successful spell on loan with the Serie A side and they are hoping to extend his stay by making it a permanent deal.
According to the Daily Mail, United want £18.2m for the 30-year-old defender, but Roma are not budging on their valuation of the player, which is no more than £16.3m.
The two clubs are not far off with their valuations but the report claims Roma are standing firm over their stance.
Apparently Smalling and his family have settled into life well in the Italian capital, so he is likely to push for a move and it’s not as if United are trying to get him back even though defensive reinforcements are needed.
Solskjaer needs more defenders who are comfortable with bringing the ball out from the back. That’s certainly not one of Smalling’s strong points.
Roma have two league matches left to play against Torino and Juventus before they take part in the latter stages of the Europa League.
Earlier this year The Sun claimed that Arsenal, Juventus and Inter Milan were all interested in Smalling.
